Welcome dear students! Today we are going to learn about An Introduction to the Study of International Relations from Class 9 Social_Science.
There are 195 sovereign nations in the contemporary world. Although these nations are fully independent, they are not self sufficient nations. Whether it is an individual or a nation representing them, it is imperative to connect with another nation to redress the grievances of its people. Imperatives like these prefaced the study of international relations. Let us begin with the meaning and definitions. The literal meaning of international relations is the interrelation between nation and states. The term International relations was first used by Jeremy Bentham in his book Principles of Morals and Legislation published in 1789. Some scholarly definitions help in understanding this subject. Quincy Wright defines international relations is the study of the relations between different groups, states, nations, governments, peoples, regions, unions, religious, cultural and industrial organizations. Hans J Morgenthau called international relations as international politics. He stated that International politics is the struggle for power between nations and its use. Note these definitions carefully for your exams.

Whichever country has more power influences other countries to fulfill its interests. Sixth is interaction and feedback among nations. No nation in the present world is self perfect. Every nation depends on another nation in some way. So it is imperative that they engage in interaction and feedback to protect their respective interests. Seventh is the use of empirical and analytical methods for theory formation. Theories are the basis for the study of all branches of knowledge. Accordingly, theories are also the basis in the study of international relations. These theories are normative and empirical in nature. Especially international relations scholars have used experimental and analytical methods, known as the Analytical Approach, to make its study more scientific. Eighth is the role of official and non official institutions. Both recognized and non recognized organizations are influencing the study of international relations. Organizations like the United Nations, World Bank, and International Monetary Fund are official institutions.
