Revision. Match each statement to the term it describes.
What this lesson covers
- The smallest unit that can carry out all life activities on its own — Cell (Structural and functional unit of life — everything the body does traces back to it.)
- An organism whose entire body is a single cell — Unicellular (Amoeba and Paramecium — one cell performs every function.)
- An organism built of many cells with divided labour — Multicellular (Different cells specialise, which is why tissues and organs exist.)
- The entire living content of a cell — Protoplasm (Cytoplasm plus nucleus. Named by Purkinje, and called the physical basis of life.)
- A group of similar cells performing one function — Tissue (The level immediately above the cell.)
- Cells becoming specialised for particular jobs — Cell differentiation (How one fertilised egg gives rise to nerve, muscle and blood cells alike.)
