Lesson 4 ·Class 9 · Hygiene — [A Key to Healthy Life] · Sort Lab
Cockroaches and Rats
Household pests and their control.
Sort each statement by the pest it describes.
Sorted 0/9
All items sorted — check each bin.
VS
Free play — sort every item into the bin it belongs in; each correct drop tells you why. Switch to when you're ready to test yourself.
Both are controlled the same way in the end: remove food, water and shelter. Poison alone never solves an infestation.
What this lesson covers
Challenges to clear
- Sort every statement.
- Fill the Rat column — the diseases and habits that belong to rats alone.
The task
Sort each statement by the pest it describes.
What this lesson covers
- Cockroach: Hides in dark crevices by day and comes out at night (Which is why an infestation is often noticed only after dark.); Carries germs mechanically on its legs and body onto food (Much like the housefly — it spreads cholera, dysentery and food poisoning.); Leaves an unpleasant smell on the food it walks over (From secretions of its scent glands.); Controlled by sealing cracks and using boric acid or baits (Denying it hiding places matters as much as poisoning it.); Keeping the kitchen dry and free of food scraps discourages it (It needs both moisture and food waste.)
- Rat: Gnaws constantly, damaging grain stores, wiring and books (Its incisors grow continuously and must be worn down.); Its fleas transmit plague (The flea carries Yersinia pestis from rat to human.); Its urine can spread leptospirosis and contaminates stored grain (Which is why flooded areas often see outbreaks.); Controlled by traps, rodenticides and sealed grain storage (Storage in rat-proof containers removes the food supply.)
Hint
Both are controlled the same way in the end: remove food, water and shelter. Poison alone never solves an infestation.
