What this lesson covers
Challenges to clear
- Match every habit to its reason.
- Connect wearing footwear to the worm it keeps out of your body.
The task
Match each habit to what it actually prevents.
What this lesson covers
- Washing hands before eating and after using the toilet — Stops germs on the hands reaching the mouth (The single most effective habit against cholera, typhoid and worm infections.)
- Brushing teeth twice a day — Removes food particles bacteria would ferment into acid (That acid dissolves enamel, which is how dental caries begins.)
- Bathing daily — Removes sweat, dead skin and the bacteria that feed on them (It also prevents skin infections and body odour.)
- Keeping nails short and clean — Denies dirt and worm eggs a place to lodge (Long nails are a common route for re-infection with roundworm.)
- Covering the mouth when coughing or sneezing — Stops droplets carrying germs into the air others breathe (This is how tuberculosis, influenza and the common cold spread.)
- Getting adequate sleep — Lets the body repair tissue and keeps immunity working well (Sustained sleep loss measurably weakens resistance to infection.)
- Wearing footwear outdoors — Prevents hookworm larvae entering through the skin of the feet (Hookworm infection is largely a disease of bare feet and poor sanitation.)
