Lesson 2 ·Class 9 · Diseases : Cause and Control · Sort Lab
Communicable and Non-Communicable
Which diseases can pass to another person.
Sort each disease by whether it can spread from one person to another.
Sorted 0/10
All items sorted — check each bin.
VS
Free play — sort every item into the bin it belongs in; each correct drop tells you why. Switch to when you're ready to test yourself.
Ask whether a living pathogen is involved. Deficiency, degenerative, inherited and allergic diseases never spread.
What this lesson covers
What you do
- Goitre is the trap: many people in one region get it at once, but from shared soil, not from each other.
Challenges to clear
- Sort every disease.
- Fill the Non-communicable column — the illnesses you cannot catch from anyone.
The task
Sort each disease by whether it can spread from one person to another.
What this lesson covers
- Communicable — Caused by a pathogen: Tuberculosis (Spread by droplets from an infected person's cough.); Cholera (Spread through contaminated water and food.); Malaria (Spread by a vector, the Anopheles mosquito — not directly person to person, but still communicable.); AIDS (Spread through blood, sexual contact, and from mother to child.)
- Non-communicable: Diabetes (A metabolic disorder — you cannot catch it from anyone.); Scurvy (A deficiency disease, caused by lack of vitamin C.); Cancer (Uncontrolled cell division; it does not transmit between people.); Asthma (An allergic and inflammatory condition of the airways.); Haemophilia (Inherited through the genes, not transmitted by contact.); Goitre (Caused by iodine deficiency. Many people in one area may have it, but that is shared cause, not spread.)
Hint
Ask whether a living pathogen is involved. Deficiency, degenerative, inherited and allergic diseases never spread.
