Lesson 2 ·Class 9 · Cell : The Unit of Life · Sort Lab
The Cell Theory
What it claims — and what it does not.
Which of these statements are part of the cell theory?
Sorted 0/6
All items sorted — check each bin.
VS
Free play — sort every item into the bin it belongs in; each correct drop tells you why. Switch to when you're ready to test yourself.
Three postulates only: cells make up all life, cells are the unit of structure and function, and cells come from cells.
What this lesson covers
Challenges to clear
- Sort every statement.
- Fill the 'NOT part of it' box — the claims the cell theory never made.
The task
Which of these statements are part of the cell theory?
What this lesson covers
- Part of the cell theory: All living things are made of one or more cells (The first postulate — the cell is the structural unit of life.); The cell is the basic unit of structure and function (Every life activity ultimately happens in cells.); New cells arise only from pre-existing cells (Virchow's addition — it ruled out spontaneous generation.)
- NOT part of it: Cells can arise spontaneously from non-living matter (This is exactly what Virchow's postulate disproved.); Viruses obey the cell theory (Viruses are acellular — they are a genuine exception to it.); All cells are the same size and shape (Cells vary enormously; shape follows function.)
Hint
Three postulates only: cells make up all life, cells are the unit of structure and function, and cells come from cells.
