Lesson 8 ·Class 9 · Cell : The Unit of Life · Sort Lab
Plant Only, Animal Only, Both
Sorting the organelles.
Which cells have each of these?
Sorted 0/10
All items sorted — check each bin.
Free play — sort every item into the bin it belongs in; each correct drop tells you why. Switch to when you're ready to test yourself.
Plants add wall, chloroplast and a big vacuole. Animals keep the centrosome and lysosomes.
What this lesson covers
Challenges to clear
- Fill the plant-only bin correctly.
- Sort every structure.
- Fill the Both box — the parts every cell has, plant or animal.
The task
Which cells have each of these?
What this lesson covers
- Plant cells only: Cell wall (Made of cellulose; gives the plant cell its rigid shape.); Chloroplast (Only plants photosynthesise, so only they need it.); Large central vacuole (Stores cell sap and keeps the cell turgid.)
- Animal cells only: Centrosome (Organises the spindle during animal cell division.); Cilia and flagella (Higher plants have no motile cells that need them.); Lysosome (Abundant in animal cells; rare or absent in plant cells.)
- Both: Cell membrane (Every cell has one — it is the living boundary.); Nucleus (Both are eukaryotic.); Mitochondria (Plants respire too — they need energy day and night.); Golgi apparatus (Packaging is needed in both.)
Hint
Plants add wall, chloroplast and a big vacuole. Animals keep the centrosome and lysosomes.
