Lesson 2 ·Class 9 · Tissues : Plant and Animal Tissues · Sort Lab
Meristematic Tissue
Where a plant actually grows.
Sort each description into the kind of meristem it belongs to.
Sorted 0/6
All items sorted — check each bin.
Free play — sort every item into the bin it belongs in; each correct drop tells you why. Switch to when you're ready to test yourself.
Apical makes the plant taller, lateral makes it thicker, intercalary lets cut grass grow back.
What this lesson covers
Challenges to clear
- Fill the Apical bin correctly.
- Fill the Lateral box — the meristem that makes a stem thicker, not taller.
The task
Sort each description into the kind of meristem it belongs to.
What this lesson covers
- Apical — At tips of root and shoot: Found at the tip of the root and shoot (This is why a plant grows from its tips.); Increases the length of the plant (Apical meristem drives primary growth.)
- Intercalary — At the base of internodes: Lets grass regrow after it is mown or grazed (The growing region survives below the cut — which is why lawns recover.); Lies at the base of internodes or leaves (Left behind by the apical meristem as the shoot grows past.)
- Lateral — Along the sides: Cambium is an example of it (Vascular cambium and cork cambium are both lateral meristems.); Increases the thickness or girth of the stem (Secondary growth — this is how a tree trunk widens.)
Hint
Apical makes the plant taller, lateral makes it thicker, intercalary lets cut grass grow back.
