Lesson 2 ·Class 9 · Respiration in Plants · Sort Lab
Respiration Is Not Burning
Same equation, completely different process.
Both release energy from fuel and both produce CO₂ and water. Sort each statement.
Sorted 0/10
All items sorted — check each bin.
VS
Free play — sort every item into the bin it belongs in; each correct drop tells you why. Switch to when you're ready to test yourself.
The overall equation is the same. Everything that differs comes from one thing: respiration is enzyme-controlled and stepwise.
What this lesson covers
Challenges to clear
- Sort every statement.
- Fill the Burning column — what fire does that respiration never does.
The task
Both release energy from fuel and both produce CO₂ and water. Sort each statement.
What this lesson covers
- Respiration: Happens in many small enzyme-controlled steps (Which is how the energy can be captured rather than lost.); Occurs at ordinary body or room temperature (Enzymes make the reaction possible without heat.); Energy is stored as ATP for the cell to use later (The point is to capture energy, not to waste it.); Controlled by enzymes at every stage (Each step has its own specific enzyme.); Occurs only in living cells (It is a life process.)
- Burning: Happens in a single uncontrolled step (Everything is released at once.); Needs a high temperature to start and continue (There is no enzyme to lower the activation energy.); Energy is released as heat and light (None of it is stored.); No enzymes are involved (It is a purely chemical, uncontrolled oxidation.); Can occur in any combustible material (Living or not — wood, paper, petrol.)
Hint
The overall equation is the same. Everything that differs comes from one thing: respiration is enzyme-controlled and stepwise.
