CBSE syllabus 2026–27, chapter by chapter

CBSE teaches from NCERT textbooks, and NCERT is replacing them class by class. For 2026–27 the Class 9 Maths, Science and Social Science books are new; Class 10 is unchanged but examined differently. Below is the current chapter list for each class, free to read.

What changed, in one paragraph

Class 9 got new Mathematics, Science and Social Science books — Maths dropped from fifteen chapters to eight and the four Social Science books merged into one. Classes 6 and 7 moved to the new NCERT series earlier. Class 10 keeps its books, but roughly half the board paper is now competency-based, so the same syllabus is being tested in a different way.

CBSE syllabus — common questions

What is the CBSE syllabus for 2026–27?
CBSE follows the NCERT textbooks, and NCERT has been replacing them class by class. For 2026–27 the Class 9 Mathematics, Science and Social Science books are new, and Classes 6 and 7 already use the new Ganita Prakash and Curiosity series. Class 10 is unchanged this cycle.
Where is the official CBSE syllabus published?
On cbseacademic.nic.in under Curriculum. That is the document your school follows and the one to check before an exam. This page is a student-readable chapter list of what is actually taught, not a replacement for it.
Has the Class 10 syllabus changed for 2026–27?
The Class 10 books are the same this cycle. What has changed is the paper: roughly half of it is now competency-based, so the same chapters are being examined in a noticeably different way.
