The list below matches the 2026–27 NCERT editions. A large share of study sites, printed guides and question banks still carry the old chapters — and a wrong chapter list quietly wastes weeks, because you revise topics that are no longer set and skip ones that are.

What to do with this list

  1. 1 Verify it against your own book Open the contents page. If it matches, you now have a reliable revision map for the year. If it does not, your school may still be on the previous edition — ask before you plan around it.
  2. 2 Mark the chapters Class 10 will lean on Geometry, the atom, motion, and the economics of choice. These are the ones where a Class 9 gap becomes a Class 10 problem.
  3. 3 Test yourself before you feel ready Reading a chapter twice feels like learning and usually is not. One set of questions after one reading tells you more than three readings.

Class 9 syllabus — common questions

What is the CBSE Class 9 syllabus for 2026–27?
Class 9 now follows new NCERT books in Mathematics (8 chapters), Science (13 chapters) and Social Science (9 chapters, one integrated book replacing the previous four). English and Hindi also use new readers. The full chapter list is on this page.
How many chapters are in Class 9 Science?
Thirteen. The new book integrates Physics, Chemistry and Biology rather than grouping them into separate units, so motion, cells and atomic structure sit alongside one another rather than in blocks.
Is the Class 9 syllabus reduced?
Reorganised, not reduced. Class 9 Maths went from fifteen chapters to eight, but the content was regrouped around ideas — a chapter like "The World of Numbers" carries what used to be spread across several separate chapters.
Why do other sites show a different Class 9 chapter list?
Most of them were written for the old books and have not been updated. If you are searching a chapter name and getting nothing that matches your textbook, that is why. Check the contents page of your school copy against this list.
How does Class 9 connect to the Class 10 board exam?
Directly. Class 10 trigonometry assumes Class 9 geometry; Class 10 chemistry assumes the atom; Class 10 economics assumes the Class 9 material on choice and markets. Most Class 10 difficulty is a Class 9 gap that was never closed.

Exam rules and marks on this page were last checked on 23 August 2026. Boards do change them. Always confirm dates and the final syllabus against cbseacademic.nic.in.
